Math Noortmann is Professor in Transnational Law and Non-State Actors at the Center for Trust, Peace and Social Relations (CTPSR) at Coventry University. He has taught and researched at Universities in the Netherlands, Singapore, Germany, and the UK. Holding a Ph.D. in International Law and a M.Sc. in Political Science, his research combines the interdisciplinary knowledge and understanding of law and politics. Math Noortmann particularly investigates the roles of non-state actors in transnational security governance. In that, he addresses the delicate balance between the need for security and order on the one hand, and justice and the protection of human dignity on the other. His most recent research focuses on transnational organized (maritime) crime, and the role of the private security sector in maintaining transnational order and justice. He receives research funding from ESRC/AHRC (PaCCS), Newton (Institutional Links) and ESRC (CREST).
As of July 2018, Math Noortmann will combine his professorship at CTPSR with that of Executive Director of the Academic Council for the United Nations System (ACUNS).
