Dr. Raluca-Ioana Mocanu is Senior Lecturer at Criminal Law Department, Faculty of Law, University of Bucharest.
She began her academic career in 2005, joining the Criminal Law Department as a Ph.D. candidate, delivering seminars mainly on Criminal Law. She defended her Ph.D. thesis on March 2010 at the University of Bucharest, on Romanian Anti-Terrorist Law.
At present, she teaches Criminal Law for Bachelor Students, and has a course `Offences related to Organised Crime` designed for Masters Programmes focusing on transnational organised crime and related offences – drug trafficking, trafficking in persons and in migrants, laundering of money, and terrorist offences.
As part of her post-doctoral research she has conducted work for numerous academic institutions:
- During 2014/2015, being awarded the Swiss Government Excellence Scholarship, she joined University of Fribourg to work on a project regarding trafficking in persons.
- During Oct/Dec. 2016, being awarded the French Government Excellence Scholarship, she joined University of Poitiers to work on a project on smuggling of migrants.
- During July/Sept. 2017, she conducted a research-stay at Woodrow Wilson Center working on a project on self-radicalised terrorists.
Since October 2022 she has been the Vice-chair of Cost Action 21133 `Globalization, Illicit Trade, Security and Sustainability`.
She has delivered numerous presentations at national and international conferences and published several articles and studies.
