Alan Edwards is a Deployable Civilian Expert with the FCDO in relation to combating organised crime. He has 32 years’ experience as a police officer preceded by 7 years with the Royal Military Police. He has worked in proactive policing and intelligence gathering both nationally and internationally for over 25 years. He is a detective and police trainer with experience of organised crime investigation, covert policing, intelligence development, investigation management and developing strategic policy. He has had a varied career which includes being Chief of an international team of detectives with the mandate to target organised crime, corruption and terrorism in Kosovo (2013-16), establishing an upstream office to counter people smuggling and human trafficking in Istanbul (2005-6), developing an intelligence sharing unit in Khartoum to target the trafficking and smuggling networks operating across East Africa (2017-2020), establishing the Illicit Laboratory Unit combating synthetic narcotics (2003) and initiating the largest child abuse investigation of grooming activity in the UK (2009).
